It takes 3-5 working days, providing you have attached all the required documents together with your application.
Your application is valid for 12 months. If you are not successful in gaining a place in your preferred course, you will be asked to provide a new application for admission with updated information.

Does every international student need a Student Pass to study in Limkokwing University?
Yes. It is a mandatory requirement for an international student to apply for a Student Pass if he/she has been accepted by any educational institution to pursue full-time studies in Malaysia.

Is it possible to study in Malaysia on a Social Pass?
No. It is illegal to study in Malaysia under a Social or Tourist Pass. Students are NOT ALLOWED to enter the country via any other pass other than a Student Visa. The University is NOT ALLOWED to convert a social or tourist visa into a Student Visa.

My Student Portal shows that I have outstanding fees when I have already paid everything. Whose fault is this?
The Student Portal is updated at 3 am every day. Try accessing the portal again after the next update if possible. Alternatively, contact the Bursary Department for more information.
I have a Second Home Visa. Do I also have to pay the visa fees and administrative charges?
International administrative charges need to be paid. Visa fees will be waived.
What are the regulations and penalty for overstaying? What happens if I overstay?
Students who failed to submit their passport two (2) months before the date of expiry will fall into the ‘Overstay’ category. See our Immigration Policy for the charges.
Your passport must be submitted to the Visa Department at least 23 days before the VAL expires. A penalty of RM1,800 will be imposed on applications that are submitted with less than 23 days before the VAL expires.
Students have to submit their passport to Visa Department 90 days before their visa expiry date. You must have valid insurance before renewing your Student Visa.

When can I receive my Medical Insurance Card?
Please contact the University’s Insurance Department 14 working days after receiving your passport with a valid Student Visa.

When will my Visa Approval Letter (VAL) be ready?
After the University has received the complete documents for the VAL application and proof of payment, the documents will be sent to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) and it may take six to eight weeks to process (delays may arise due to the volume of applications received). Should EMGS reject your application, the University will notify you immediately.

How will I be notified if the Student Pass application has been approved?

/searchForm/ You should get your Single Entry Visa (SEV) and come into Malaysia at least one (1) month before your VAL expires. To obtain a Single Entry Visa (SEV), go to the nearest Malaysian Embassy (preferably in your home country).
How long is the validity of my Visa Approval Letter (VAL)?
The Visa Approval Letter is valid for six (6) months from the date of issue. If you have not arrived in Malaysia within this validity period, you will need to reapply and pay the visa fee again.
What is a Single Entry Visa (SEV)?
Single Entry Visa (SEV) is a stamp in your passport that the Malaysian Embassy in your home country issues after you submit your VAL. Please visit the Immigration website to find out on the list of selected nationalities who are required to have the Single Entry Visa (SEV) to enter Malaysia. Note that Malaysia Immigration Department (MID) will not issue the Student Pass to you without the Single Entry Visa (SEV) stamp from the Malaysian Embassy on your passport. Can I study in Malaysia under a Social/Tourist Pass?
No. It is illegal to study in Malaysia under a Social/Tourist Pass. Students are NOT ALLOWED to enter the country via any other pass other than the Student Pass.
Can I enter Malaysia while my VAL is still under process?
The EMGS will process your VAL as long as you are outside Malaysia. If you enter Malaysia at any time during the processing period, EMGS will require that you provide them with an exit stamp on the passport page copy. They will not process your VAL until you have obtained an exit stamp on your passport.
Do I need to go through a medical examination after arriving in Malaysia?
Yes. You will need to undergo a medical check-up within seven (7) days of arrival in Malaysia.
I have a tourist visa to Malaysia but I did not perform the journey. Will it affect my student visa later?
Once you have received your Visa Approval Letter (VAL), you need to cancel the tourist visa to enable you to apply for a Single Entry Visa in a Malaysian Embassy in your country.

What if Immigration/ EMGS reject my variation application?
If your application for variation is rejected by
EMGS/ Immigration Department of Malaysia, you
are required to defer your studies and return to your home country. You will be required to apply for a new student pass and only allowed to come to Malaysia once the Visa Approval Letter (VAL) has been approved by EMGS/ Immigration.
Can I register with Limkokwing University while waiting for my variation/progression application to be approved?
NO. You cannot register with the new programme until you get your Visa Approval Letter (VAL) from Immigration. You may be advised to return to home country and defer your study if the visa approval from Immigration is delay.
Do I need to exit Malaysia if I want to change my university?
The requirement to exit Malaysia depends on the type of the pass you are holding at the time of application and expired date on your current pass, as well as the University you are transferring to or from. To avoid overstay, we advised student to apply new VAL from home country.
Please note that you are not allowed to stay in Malaysia longer than the duration of your programme. Should you fail to complete the programme within
the given time, you are required to request for a Supporting Letter from the Faculty that explain on
the need for Student Pass extension.
Final decision on the period of extension will be made by the EMGS/Immigration. If the reason is acceptable, EMGS will approve the application and issue a shorter period of Student Pass (instead of 12 months), with
a FINAL stamp stamped on the pass.
What if late submission for renewal of student pass?
Limkokwing Univeristy will impose a fine for late submission of renewal of student pass. If student submit less than 4 weeks before expiry – fine RM1,700 for Special Pass & Immigration compound
What documents do I need to provide along with the New/Renewal/Re-Apply forms?
Fill up the student pass and Immigration forms provided by the University’s International Student Services Department (ISSD). The supporting documents that you need to provide are:

How long will it take to complete renewal of student pass?
It should take around 4-6 weeks upon receipt of
a complete document and payment. You have to submit the document at Visa Department counter.
The application for renewal must be send through EMGS by the University to obtained Supporting
Letter prior submission for sticker endorsement
at Immigration Department.
How long does the Student Visa renewal process take?
The Student Visa renewal process takes a minimum
of 22 working days. Depending on the volume of applications Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) receives, this duration may change.

What if Immigration/ EMGS reject my pass renewal?
If your application for renewal of student pass is rejected by EMGS/ Immigration Department of Malaysia, you are required to defer your studies and return to your home country. You will be required to apply for a new student pass and only allowed to come to Malaysia once the Visa Approval Letter (VAL) has been approved by EMGS/ Immigration.
Do I need to submit my passport when apply for renewal?
NO. You are required to submit your original passport only when EMGS tracker show a progress of 90% (minimum 4 weeks after submission of document to Visa Department).
I would like to send a passport for renewal and will return to my country/ or travel by flight. Can I purchase air flight ticket before my passport ready?
NO! Students are not allowed to purchase any flight ticket before obtaining your student pass/passport from the University to avoid any problem arises afterwards. Please note it will take 4-6 weeks for renewal process. Limkokwing University will not liable for any late approval by Immigration
When should I submit my original passport for issuance of the new Student Pass?
Please submit your passport to the Visa Department one (1) month before the expiration of the current Student Pass. (e.g.: If the expiration date of the Student Pass is on 1 April 2020, submission must be done on 1 March 2020), once the renewal application has been approved by the EMGS. I need to renew my Student Visa before travelling back home and I have just submitted my passport. How can the University’s Visa Department speed up the process of my visa renewal?
A student has to submit the passport two (2) months before the Student Visa expires and attach a flight booking for estimation of travel dates. The University’s Visa Department cannot speed up the process because it involves multiple government agencies as well.

What should I do once I have received a new passport?
You are required to submit both new and old original passport along with other necessary documents to the VPU immediately to proceed with the Transfer Student Pass Application.
What should I do if I lost my passport?

Upon the completion of my studies, I would like to leave Malaysia for good. Should I cancel my Student Pass?
Yes. You are required to cancel the Student Pass once you have completed your studies. Please submit the Letter of Completion, your original passport and the necessary documents to the Visa Department for the cancelation of the Student Pass.
Do I need to cancel my Student Pass in the event of deferment?
Yes. You are required to cancel your Student Pass if you are not registered / did not return / not attending classes for more than three (3) months. To continue your studies in Limkokwing University, you must submit the necessary documents and pay the Visa
fees to apply for the new Student Pass.
Note that you will have to follow the new student process such as go back to your home country, wait for your Visa Approval Letter (VAL) outside the country, applying for a new Single Entry Visa at the Malaysian Embassy (if necessary)
My current student pass is still valid for a few more months. I feel like it is a waste to cancel it later. Can I cancel it later?
NO! You are required to cancel your current Student Pass immediately. Failure to comply with this procedure, the University will notify the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Malaysia Immigrations Department and Royal Police Malaysia.
You may be blacklisted and deported back to your home country. You can be prohibited to enter Malaysia for a period of time.
Do I need to apply for visa if I have a Malaysian Resident pass or if I would like to study part-time for my postgraduate studies?
You are required to provide a letter from the Immigration that approves and allows you to study under this pass. Additionally, you will need to write us a letter stating that you do not have a student visa and will face all future responsibilities in connection to it.
How can I attend the Global Classroom when my visa, or passport, is still being processed?
You will not be able to join the Global Classroom. To avoid complications, submit your passport for Student Visa renewal three (3) months before expiry.

I have a work permit/dependant visa. Do I still need to apply for a Student Visa?
Yes, you have to apply for a Student Visa. Students are not allowed to study while on a work permit/dependant visa under any circumstances.
Why are the New/Renewal/Re-Apply fees so expensive?
All the charges are payable to the Malaysian Immigration Department and Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). The payment is inclusive of medical fees, processing fees and visa fees.
My Student Portal is saying that my Student Visa is expiring soon. Why is this happening when I don’t even have a Student Visa yet?
If you submit your passport for a Special Pass, the University’s Visa Department will update the Student Portal expiry date while awaiting Visa Approval.
NB: You need to have a minimum of 2 months of valid Student Visa for your Student Portal to be active.
How do I get my Medical Reference Number?
Upon first arriving in Malaysia, new students must present their Visa Approval Letter (VAL) and Passports to the University’s Visa Department to obtain their Medical Reference Number.
For students who are renewing their Student Visa, EMGS will provide the Medical Reference Number two (2) weeks after it receives a student’s complete Renewal Application.

Am I eligible for a Dependant Pass?
A Dependant Pass is only issued for family members (husband, wife, children or parents) of postgraduate students to stay in Malaysia during their study period.
