Sixteen Limkokwing students from across faculties got hands-on at the Kuala Lumpur Summit as media relations officers. Held late last year the four day event exposed them to the industry standard of working – readying them for the professional world while still studying.
The summit also served as an international platform for Muslim leaders, intellectuals and scholars from around the world to discuss and exchange ideas about the issues revolving around the Muslim world.
In November 2014, when the first Summit was held in Kuala Lumpur, great success was achieved in bringing together renowned Muslim figures. Among them, new and valuable solutions for the problems facing the Muslim world were introduced and discussed.
Limkokwing students had the privilege of meeting national leaders, networking with high profile figures and attending discussions in the presence of Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia; Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani; President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey and President Hassan Rouhani of Iran.
Commenting on the powerful role that the youth plays in the world today, Tun Mahathir Mohamad said that such events aim to prepare the youngsters for the future.
“The youth will inherit this world. We must prepare the youth to take over from us, which is why we’re having this conference for the Youthful Leaders of Muslim Countries,” he said
One of the students participating, Tarek Hassan from Egypt who is studying Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Broadcasting & Journalism, said he was grateful for the opportunity to be involved in this event and meet world leaders.
“The best part about being a Limkokwing student is the exposure I get to the real world. I came here with the Limkokwing team as a volunteer helping out the delegates during the summit, attending discussions and meeting distinguished personals,’’ he said.
Another student, Najeebullah Amiri from Afghanistan, studying MBA in Project Management, said Limkokwing University is a great stage for him to learn about different cultures and get engaged in nurturing experiences to equip him with the skills of tomorrow.
“The Summit served as an exciting platform to discuss crucial topics. This is a great learning experience for me, meeting delegates from around the world and being amongst people who actually change the world. I am very grateful to Limkokwing for giving me the opportunity to be part of an important event,” he said.
In today’s globalised workplace, having a network of friends from across the world is a great advantage. It will enable you to obtain market intelligence at a scale that cannot be matched by others who have not studied at Limkokwing University. It is critical that our students understand and make connections between the classroom and the real world.
